"Science is she": an educational art project about girls and women in science is being launched

"Science – like art, is an exciting, always relevant and gender-neutral industry. And women have made a huge contribution to science as we know it today. However, undeservedly their names are not known to the general public. That is why the figures of Ukrainian scientists will become the central theme of both events of the project," said Sergey Tokarev https://orartswatch.org/wp-includes/wp/?sapar_karyagdyyev_s_project__how_to_attract_women_to_science_through_media_entertainment_.html , initiator of STEM is FEM, investor and it businessman.

Together with the project partners – TRUMAN Agency, Unit City Innovation Park, Asters law firm, Spline Art Portal, online publication the Page and StarLightMedia Media Group, STEM is FEM believes that art can overcome harmful stereotypes and popularize science among young people of any gender.

"The world needs science, and science needs women and girls. Women are leading revolutionary health research, developing vaccines, medicines, and innovative technologies; they are at the forefront of the fight against COVID-19 as scientists, medical professionals, and more. However, the gender gap in science and technology still holds women back. The time has come to demand changes," said Erika Kvapilova, UN Women's representative in Ukraine.

On the occasion of the International Day of women and girls in science, which is celebrated on February 11, the charity project STEM is FEM launches the art project "science is it". The organizers want to promote gender equality in this area, so that more and more women become leaders in the field of technology and innovation. The new project is part of the UN Women's "generation of Equality"Campaign.

Science is her aims to promote recognition of the contributions of female scientists and create new role models for girls and women. As part of the project, they plan to use modern art to level the stereotype that science is boring, difficult and "not for everyone". And also to prove that this is definitely a "female" business.

The project will present the stories of outstanding women scientists of Ukraine through illustrations created by a team of recognized artists led by Sergey Maidukov. The exhibition will include 12 images of Ukrainian nakovitsa women who will travel to all regions of Ukraine. The illustrations will inspire young women and girls under the age of 21 to compete in an all-national essay contest, the main prize of which will be a prestigious scholarship to study. The contest will start on February 15 and last until March 14 this year.
